Infrastructure bottlenecks put the brakes on growth at Kombiverkehr

In the 2010 financial year, Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr KG posted some of the best results in the more than 40-year history of the company, with some growth rates in double figures. In total, 933,039 truck consignments (1.866 million TEU) were shifted from road to rail, 9.1 per cent up on the previous year. The benefit for the environment was that Kombiverkehr's rail services prevented 1.155 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from transport last year, including 870,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) alone. Because every single one of Kombiverkehr's five traffic axes has expanded, in 2010 the company was able to consolidate its position as by far the biggest operator of intermodal transport in Europe.
