Irish ports operating under new owner

Copenhagen-based shipping group DFDS A/S has sold two routes on the Irish Sea to Stena Line. The sale covers the routes Belfast-Birkenhead and Belfast-Heysham, and includes two ro-ro vessels, the Hibernia Seaways and the Scotia Seaways, and two chartered ro-pax vessels

Shippers won't pay a premium for intermodal services

Speaking at the Intermodal Europe 2010 conference and exhibition, shippers said they were hoping to switch more volumes to intermodal transport because of the environmental benefits it would bring and because there were concerns over the rising cost of fuel and congestion on the roads. But they said they would not be willing to pay more for it.

Rail Freight Funding Will Support Intermodal Shift

Freight organisations welcomed the news this week that the English revenue support grant has escaped drastic cuts. £19m of funding will be allocated next year, just £1m down from the previous annual funding, with the same amount recommended for the following two years. The fund supports co-modality, where different forms of transporting freight synergize into a more effective intermodal method of carriage.

Shareholders vote to place Intercontainer-Interfrigo SA into liquidation

At an extraordinary general meeting held on 26 November 2010 in Brussels, the shareholders of traditional intermodal transport operator ICF Intercontainer-Interfrigo SA, Basel, decided that to place the company into liquidation. 145 ICF block trains/shuttles are running throughout Europe. Operating and marketing services of these traffics are managed by the Business Units West, East and CIS. Primary target of the liquidation is to transfer the Business Units and their transport services and their staff as complete as possible and without loss of customers to interested parties.
