Goods transport in Germany increased in 2014. According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the volume of transport in 2014 is expected to have risen 2.9% on the previous year, reaching 4.5 billion tonnes.
Germany's railfreight industry has seen its strongest first quarter growth since 2011 according to figures released by the Federal Statics Agency (Destatis), which show quarterly volumes climbed 4.4% year-on-year to 92 million tonnes.

Cargo transport on Austria's railway network has suffered losses in 2012. According to a report of Statistics Austria, a total of 100.5 million tonnes of freight was transported on Austria's railway network by all domestic and foreign railway companies.
