Goods transport in Germany increased in 2014. According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the volume of transport in 2014 is expected to have risen 2.9% on the previous year, reaching 4.5 billion tonnes.

According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the volume of transport in 2013 is expected to have risen 0.8% on the previous year, reaching 4.3 billion tonnes. Road, rail and inland waterways contributed to the growth, whereas decline was recorded for sea transport and crude oil transport via pipelines.

Cargo transport on Austria's railway network has suffered losses in 2012. According to a report of Statistics Austria, a total of 100.5 million tonnes of freight was transported on Austria's railway network by all domestic and foreign railway companies.
